Gorilla and chimp trekking is moderately strenuous — expect 1 to 6 hours of hiking on steep, often muddy forest trails. Reasonable fitness helps, and a porter can carry your daypack and give you a hand.
Permits are the biggest cost and fund conservation: around $1,500 in Rwanda and $800 in Uganda. They are included in our tour prices and we book them well in advance.
Yes — you must be 15 or older to trek gorillas or chimpanzees. Younger families can still enjoy golden monkeys, wildlife safaris and cultural experiences.
Uganda offers better value and adds chimpanzees; Rwanda has easier access from Kigali and golden monkeys. For the ultimate trip, combine gorillas with a Tanzanian safari. We will advise the best fit.
