DAY 01

 

Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Camp

A steep, direct start: drive to the Umbwe Gate and climb through dense montane rainforest along a narrow forested ridge to Umbwe Camp.

DAY 02

 

Umbwe Camp to Barranco Camp

Leave the forest for open moorland dotted with giant groundsels, with dramatic views of the Western Breach and Kibo ahead.

Barranco Wall to Karanga Camp

Scramble the famous Barranco Wall, then traverse a series of ridges and valleys to Karanga on the mountain’s southern circuit.

Karanga to Barafu Camp

A short but steady climb across high alpine desert to Barafu, the summit base camp, with the afternoon to rest and prepare.

Summit Day to Uhuru Peak

A midnight start by headlamp to Stella Point and on to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) at sunrise, then a long descent to Millennium Camp.

Millennium Camp to Mweka Gate

A final descent through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you receive your summit certificate.
